I don’t know if you guys have noticed but it’s July…JULY! 2019 has been moving quickly and as we all know time waits for no one, so with six months left to the year it’s definitely a great time to reset and refocus on your goals. I got the idea to write this post after listening to Myleik Teele’s (@myleik on Instagram) podcast about refreshing your hustle this summer. If you don’t know who Myleik is (I don’t know where you’ve been) she is the founder of Curl Box (@curlbox on Instagram) and an amazing business woman. I started listening to her podcast last year after a friend recommended it to me and I’ve found it useful as well as inspiring.
I’ve been in a very transitional space for a few months now and I am absolutely here for a summer refresh of my goals, my approach to those goals, perspective, and my “why”. Why am I doing this? Do I feel the same as I did a few months ago? We change everyday as people so checking in with yourself is important and I just want to share the things I am planning to do for my own refresh.
- Create smaller goals. I have a “go big or go home” attitude when it comes to setting goals for myself and while being ambitious is something I am proud of I also have to be realistic. I get very frustrated when I haven’t met a goal and I fail to to see the progress that I have made towards that goal. Breaking things down and creating smaller goals can definitely help you to feel more accomplished and may also be more realistic depending on your lifestyle.
- Refresh your skills. This is one of the points in the podcast that I thought was extremely important. Things are changing so fast across all industries that you have to keep up in order to be successful. I don’t think we should ever stop learning so if there is a class you can take or a book you can read DO IT! I graduated with my bachelors in 2017 and so much has changed in the fashion industry since then. Work on writing emails, networking skills, learn new technology related to your field, public speaking etc..
- Stop comparing yourself. Instagram is the worst place for someone with major insecurities, seeing perfect pictures and expertly edited videos can make you feel like you’re not doing good enough. I know I personally find myself feeling like I’m not going hard enough at times but I have to remember we all have different paths. And while I can be more consistent (lord knows I’m trying!) I do know I’m doing better than previous months. Like Myleik said in the podcast “stop comparing yourself and your hustle to what you see on social media.” Your hustle is personal and unique to you and as cliche as it sounds that really is your super power.
